The project spotlights the resilient journey of Yen Melia, who grew up in a traditional Chinese-Indonesian family with the cultural belief that having daughters brings bad luck. Through soft, muted colours and designs that reflect her gentle personality, the exhibition captures how Yen persevered through immense life challenges to emerge as an accomplished painter. Her story exemplifies the quiet strength and determination it takes to pursue one's artistic passion against difficult odds.
